Puttin' on
the Hits packs the house

The annual Puttin’ on the Hits lip-sync contest held Thursday
in the Robert Brown Theatre, kept audience members entertained
throughout the evening and helped raise money for Cowley College’s
Act One Drama Club.
This is the 18th year of Puttin’ on the Hits. It started
in Galle-Johnson in a 208-seat theatre and is now packing the 800-seat
Brown Theatre.
Dejon Ewing, Humanities Department chair, came up with the
idea shortly after she arrived as a full-time instructor.
Scott MacLaughlin, Director of Theatre, served as emcee for this
year's event.
Kate Kearns won the first place prize of $50 in the small group
category, while the Act One Drama Club won $50 and the first place
prize for the large group category.
The Rocker Hippies took home second place in the small group category,
while the North Campus Student Ambassadors finished second in the
large group category.
The traveling trophy for the best performance by Cowley faculty
and staff went to the Book Ladies plus Charlee's Chain Gang, consisting
of Shannon O'Toole, Melissa Hollister, Rhoda MacLaughlin, and Charlee
Wilson. Their lyp synced performance of "Do Your Ears Hang Low" brought
down the house.
Frank Arnold finished second in the faculty and staff category
as he performed an older version of Shirley Temple's "Good Ship
Lollipop". The Humanities Trio of Tom Mason, Jacque Ramirez, and
Marlys Cervantes placed third by performing Weird Al Yankovic's "White
and Nerdy".
During brief intermissions, audience members played a Cowley version
of “Name That Tune” for cash prizes.
The three celebrity judges for the event were Ark City City Attorney
Tamra Niles, and KSOK Radio's Marty Mutti and Shawn "Rhino" Wheat.".
