Board
approves college's participation in natural hazard mitigation
plan
The Cowley College Board of Trustees approved the resolution
to participate in the natural hazard mitigation plan during
Monday night's annual meeting held in the McAtee Dining Center.
Other matters included:
- No increase in tuition for out-of-state
residents and international students, and a $2 tuition increase for
in-state and Oklahoma residents. Also approved a $2 increase in fees
for all students.

Approved 2010-2011 dorm charges, which consisted
of Great Western Dining’s proposed 2 % increase in rates
for next year.

Saw that spring enrollment is at 2,694 FTE, which
is up from 2,295 as of March 10, 2009. A total of 947 Cowley
County residents are registered for classes at Cowley College.
Fifty-eight counties in Kansas, 30 other states and 36 foreign
countries are represented in the student body.

Heard an academic
update from vice president of academic affairs Slade Griffiths
about courses that were created or modified.

Cookbook
and Apron Raffle
The
Cowley cookbook committee is selling raffle tickets for a chance
to win a Cowley apron and a Cowley cookbook.

Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. If you buy 1 cookbook
you get 1 free raffle ticket and may buy additional tickets at
2 for the price of 1.

baseball opens conference play with pair of wins

Getting strong starting pitching and timely hitting, the Cowley College baseball
team opened conference play by sweeping a doubleheader against Fort Scott Saturday

Brooks starring at Cowley
Having
recently starred in a lead role in the spring musical “South Pacific”,
Cowley College sophomore Aaron Brooks followed that up by being named the school’s
March Student of the Month. read more

Tutors
Those
interested in being tutors for next year need to pick up an application
packet from Charlee Wilson in the Renn Memorial Library. Packets are due by
Friday, April 9.

Tigers go 3-3 at Midwest JUCO Classic
With a chance to finish 4-2 at the Midwest JUCO Classic played in Broken Arrow,
OK over the weekend, the Cowley College softball team fell flat in its final
game of the tournament as they lost to Barton County 4-1. read

track and field teams opened the outdoor season by hosting a meet on Thursday.

Aubrey
Lyman named a New Century Scholar

As the top-scoring student (based on scores received in the All-USA
competition) from the state of Kansas, Cowley College sophomore
Aubrey Lyman was recently selected as a New Century Scholar.
Lyman will receive a $2,000 stipend and will be recognized at the American Association
of Community Colleges Convention, April 17-19, in Seattle, Washington. read

adds another honor to her list
Scoring the 12th most points in a single season in the history
of the Cowley College women’s basketball program, Gianna
Woods was named a Second-Team All-Region VI selection on Wednesday. read

named a First-Team All-Region VI selection
Helping lead the Cowley College men’s basketball team to a conference title
and a trip to the Region VI Tournament in Wichita, Tyrus McGee was named a First-Team
All-Region VI selection on Wednesday.

Open House on April 6
Having been several years since Cowley College’s
main campus in Arkansas City has held an Open House,
plans were discussed for an Open House to be held
on April 6 during the Board of Trustees regular
monthly meeting held Monday in the McAtee Dining

a new name

To better position the online college to service students
outside of our region the online
college module only promotes our online courses. Descriptions
of Hybrid, Video, Interaction TV and Online Continuing Education
have been moved into a module in the "Academic" group
called eLearning
Options.
