has been 37 years since Robert Sommerhauser attended Cowley College.
However, he has not forgotten what the school did for him.
As a student in Cowley College’s automotive program, Sommerhauser was encouraged
to get into VICA by former Cowley instructor Charles White. He competed in the
VICA state competition at Wichita East High School and won first place. read

11th annual Great Cowley
Duck Dash raises $11,735
Enjoying
beautiful surroundings, great food and entertainment, 300 people attended
the 11th annual Great Cowley Duck Dash held May 17 at Arkansas City’s Spring
Hill Farms.
The event, which featured a duck race and duck squat, raised $11,735. All totaled,
the Great Cowley Duck Dash has raised $165,035 over the past 11 years. read

Marvin and Anita McCorgary
named Outstanding Tiger Alumni for 2008
Putting
together successful careers in the printing business, Cowley College
graduates Marvin and Anita (Belew) McCorgary have been named the Outstanding
Tiger Alumni for 2008.
“Anita and Marvin are highly successful business people that are representative
of Cowley graduates all around the United States,” Cowley president Dr.
Patrick J. McAtee said. “I am proud to honor them as Outstanding Tiger

Griffiths named Cowley College’s
vice president of academic affairs
Having
spent the past 12 years as Cowley College’s director of EMS Education,
Slade Griffiths will step into a new role at the college as he was
recently named the school’s vice president of academic affairs.

Sowa named Cowley’s eLearning
director
With
online classes serving as the fastest growing portion of Cowley College,
the school hired Tiffany Sowa as its new eLearning director.
Sowa’s job duties include planning, implementing, and evaluating the online
learning program at the college, and enhancing the learning opportunities for
a diverse student population through the delivery of online classes. The major
component of the director’s job is to encourage the delivery of quality
education through an online format. read

Crain named Cowley College Student of the Year
Courtney Crain, a sophomore communications major from Arkansas City, was named
Cowley College’s Student of the Year during the school’s annual Honors
and Awards Ceremony held April 15 in the Brown Center’s Earle N. Wright

Cowley’s Immanuel Thompson named Arkansas City’s
Outstanding Student
One
month after being named Cowley College’s March Student
of the Month, freshman Immanuel “Manny” Thompson received
even larger recognition by being selected as Arkansas City’s
Outstanding Student April 11 in the college’s Earle N. Wright

Motivar, Poljansek named Cowley’s
Student Athletes of the year
Recognizing the accomplishments of the Cowley College athletic programs both
on the playing field and in the classroom, close to 300 people attended the college’s
2008 Athletic Awards Banquet April 22 in the Arkansas City Ag Building.
This year’s winners were, Diego Motivar of the men’s
tennis team, and Kelsey Poljansek of the women’s track and field team.

CC Singers Perform in Denver
Getting an opportunity to perform at the Chair Academy Leadership Conference
in Denver, Colo., Cowley College’s CC Singers gave an inspired performance.
After the group had completed its set, the crowd rose to its feet to give the
CC Singers a standing ovation. In turn, they treated the crowd to an encore performance.
