Cowley County Community College (Cowley College) is seeking a president familiar with, dedicated to, and appreciative of rural values, and committed to enhancing the educational, economic, and cultural quality of life of the local residents.   Founded in 1922, Cowley College is a comprehensive community college with an annualized FTE of 2,400; many are first-generation collegians.  Cowley College offers more than 70 major, degree and certificate programs at the Arkansas City campus, outreach centers and online.

The Cultural Setting

Cowley College is located in Arkansas City, Kansas (population 12,400), and is approximately 60 miles from the nearest metropolitan area.  The economy of Arkansas City and the surrounding service area primarily depend on agriculture and manufacturing.  Constituents from diverse walks of life are proud of their conservative small-town values; historical traditions; educational, cultural and recreational activities; and close-knit relationships with the institution.  Cowley College expects its next president to genuinely engage, respect, and embrace the local populace and its culture, while simultaneously looking for ways to ensure future regional prosperity.  This presidency is a high-visibility, community pillar position, and its incumbent is expected to participate in community events and support local establishments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree from a recognized accredited institution, a Doctoral Degree is preferred.
  • Experience at the senior administrative level of an accredited community college or vocational college, presidential experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated student centeredness and sensitivity to the effects of all decisions on students and the campus community.
  • Experience in academic and/or student services program development, enrollment management, facilities planning, strategic planning, budgeting, performing arts and intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of governmental and funding processes and a strong understanding of the value of a dollar.

  • A Letter of application.  The letter should include your understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students.  The letter should give the Board of Trustees a better understanding of how you will contribute to the College and the community as well as your philosophy as the President of Cowley College.
  • A current resume summarizing educational and administrative background and experience.

Cowley College is seeking part-time adjunct instructors to teach Preparatory Algebra, College Algebra, Composition I and Preparatory English on the Arkansas City campus, at the Mulvane Center and online. 
Applicants should have the ability to communicate effectively with students and college personnel; provide instruction that will achieve the specific goals and objectives of the assigned courses; and create a meaningful learning environment. A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate level coursework in the content area, required. Master's Degree, preferred. A minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferred.

ADJUNCT NURSE AIDE INSTRUCTOR

According to state and federal standards, each course instructor must be a registered nurse with a current Kansas license and have a minimum of two years' licensed nursing experience. At least 1,750 hours must be as a licensed nurse in a setting which demonstrates long-term geriatric nursing care, such as an adult care home or a distinct-part long term care unit or a state institution for the mentally retarded. Additionally, all nurse aide instructors must have completed a course in teaching adults or a professional continuing education offering on supervision or adult education, or shall have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides. To document alternative long-term care setting: “Alternative Practice Setting Experience” form is available upon request.

ADJUNCT HOME HEALTH AIDE INSTRUCTOR

According to state and federal standards, each instructor of a home health aide course must be a registered nurse with a current Kansas license and have direct work experience in the provision of home health care.
