Mechatronics -
Program Overview
“Mechatronics…is the combination of mechanical
engineering, electronic engineering and software
engineering . The
purpose of this interdisciplinary engineering field is the study of
[abstract machines] from an engineering perspective and serves the purposes
of controlling advanced hybrid systems.
Mechatronics is the
first and only program in the state to address the demand for specialized
technicians. Cowley
College offers a certificate program and associate degree. Mechatronics teaches
the design,
building, and maintaining of equipment that combines electronics, mechanics,
pneumatics, hydraulics and computer controls.
Technicians are paid to set up and maintain robots, automated manufacturing
equipment, , heating and cooling systems, treatment plant equipment,
and medical monitors. These specialized technicians will meet
a current and future need for local and area-wide manufacturers.
