Girls Talk Tech summer program
showcases fields of technology
Taking advantage of a grant funded by the Kansas Board of Regents to provide
exposure for women in fields of technology, 19 young ladies took part in Cowley
College’s Girls Talk Tech summer program on Monday. read

Cowley College Students Tour Excel Industries, Inc.
Students
in Cowley College’s Welding and Non-Destructive Testing
classes recently toured Excel Industries, Inc. in Hesston. The company
builds Hustler lawn mowers and turf equipment.
Students witnessed CNC laser cutting, robotic welding, and lean manufacturing
concepts in action throughout the plant, “It was closely related

Cowley College to hold Girls Talk Tech Summer Program
Thanks to a grant that was funded by the Kansas Board of Regents to provide
exposure for women in fields of technology, Cowley College’s
Career and Technical Education Department will hold a Girls Talk Tech
Summer Program on June 16.
The program, for girls entering grades 9-11, will run from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. There is no cost to take part in the event and lunch will be provided.

Cowley purchases
Laser Welder
Becoming the first college
in the state to purchase a Laser Welder, Cowley College students will
get an opportunity to use the machine as part of the Advanced Welding
Processes course.
Cowley students will begin using the Laser Welder during the 2008-09
academic year.
‘We want to expose our students to some of the latest technology,” Bruce
Crouse, Chair of the Career and Technical Education Department said. “With
the Laser Welder and PlasmaCam, we have the vision to branch out
and give the students access to more methods of welding.”
The Laser Welder is ideal for a wide range of metal joining and repair
applications for jewelry, dental lab work, aerospace and optical purposes.
Cowley College welding instructor Bob Moffatt is happy to have the Laser
Welder on campus.
“I think it will be an eye opener for the students and serve as a recruiting
tool for us,” Moffatt said.
Twenty-two companies take part in Cowley’s Career
Fair
One hundred and fifteen students from Cowley College’s Arkansas
City campus and Winfield Technical Center took part in the annual Career
and Technical Education Department Career Fair held Thursday in the Earle
N. Wright Community Room. read more

Eighty-six high school students from around the area took part in Cowley
College’s Technology Day held Wednesday at the Career and Technical

Cowley students tour Cessna Aircraft Company
Two different groups of welding and automotive students from Cowley College’s
Career and Technical Education Department in Mulvane had an opportunity
to tour the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita last Thursday.
A group of 26 Cowley students toured the facility in the morning, while
a group of 18 students took the tour in the afternoon. read

hosted an open house for students and parents Tuesday evening at the
college’s facility located at the Marinus-Heersche Industrial Park

Center for Technical Excellence

In a joint venture with Winfield Economic Development, Cowley College will open the Center for Technical Excellence in Winfield. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Jan. 30.
"Cowley College is pleased to present a facility to the Cowley County area that will focus on specialized industry training to increase and support the workforce for local area employers and manufacturers,” Sandy Randel, Coordinator for Career and Technical Education said.
The facility, which is located at 1108 Industrial Road in Winfield, is owned by the WED and leased by the college. read more...
Mechatronics Program
Cowley will also launch its new Mechatronics program, which will give students skills on how to repair automated systems.
"I am very excited we are adding this program to our department,” Bruce Crouse, Chair of Career and Technical Education said. “Mechatronics will be the first and only program in the state to address the demand for these specialized technicians. My research indicates demand is and will remain strong for graduates of this program. These specialized technicians will meet a current and future need for local and area wide manufacturers. I am pleased with the community and industry support we have received developing this program.”
