Cowley students attend National Leadership Conference in California

Seven Cowley College Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization students attended the 2009 National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA, June 20-23.

Students attending were:  Melissa Barr, sophomore, Arkansas City; Richard Gould, sophomore, Douglas; Janessa Gould, freshman, Douglas; Phuong Huynh, freshman, Wichita; Crystal McGuire, sophomore, Wichita; Mary Misasi, freshman, Winfield; and Elizabeth Smith, sophomore, Rock. 

Phi Beta Lambda’s mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Approximately 1,780 students attended the conference, whose theme was “Get the Edge.” Students competed in competitive events, attended leadership workshops, regional meetings and participated in the March of Dimes Walk. The walk was a special celebration of PBL’s 35-year partnership with the March of Dimes. Key note speaker was Frank Maguire, original senior vice president of Industrial Relations for FedEx. 

Beverly Grunder, State PBL advisor and Cowley College chapter advisor, accompanied the group.

“It is exciting to observe the leadership skills and professional growth students obtain by being part of the PBL organization,” Grunder said. “Networking with their peers, attending the dynamic workshops and preparing for the competition provide the students with learning and leadership experience. The skills and knowledge will enhance their future educational and professional experiences.”
