Classes are held at the Cowley College
Winfield Allied Health Center. Cowley College and Pratt Community
College have established a partnership to better meet the healthcare
needs of our community and students. Cowley College can provide all
of the pre-requisites required for a nursing degree, while Pratt
Community College will provide the technical nursing classes. The
instructional faculty, program and curricula is supervised by Pratt
Community College.

Apply Early
Applicants should complete pre-requisites prior to the technical portion
of the program which begins each fall. Priority consideration is given
to students who apply before February 1.

Step-By-Step Guide
To enroll in your pre-requisites at Cowley
College -
(Skip to step 4 if you have already completed all pre-requisites.)
- Apply for admission to Cowley College.
- Take Cowley College assessment test.
- Take prerequisite courses from Cowley. Note:
Student may be admitted to the nursing program "pending successful
completion of..." no more than 16 credit hours fall/spring semester
or no more than 10 credit hours in the summer. PCC does accept CLEP
testing out of course (not given at PCC) or credit by local examination
given by PCC course instructor.
- Begin application process to Pratt Nursing Program.
Applications received by February 1are given priority consideration.
- Take Test of Essential Academic Skills ().
Pre-Requisites
(may be taken at Cowley College)
It was announced by Pratt Community College on December 2, 2008 that chemistry will no longer be a pre-requisite for the PCC/CCCC cooperative nursing program. This change affects students applying for the fall 2009 nursing program offered at Cowley’s Winfield campus and students applying for the online LPN to RN program.
While chemistry is not required for the Pratt nursing program, it is a suggested prerequisite for Microbiology. Students are strongly advised to take chemistry, especially if they have not completed chemistry in high school.

Public Speaking
- English Composition I
- General Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Microbiology (taken within
the last 5 years; Principles of Biology or General Chemistry is a pre-requisite for this
course)
- Anatomy & Physiology (taken
within the last 5 years; Principles of Biology or General Chemistry is a pre-requisite for
this course)
- A & P Enhancement (
taken following acceptance into the nursing program; Anatomy & Physiology
is a pre-requisite for this course.)
- American Heart Association Healthcare
Provider CPR (offered each June at the Winfield Allied Health
Center) Alternate certification: American Red Cross CPR for the Professional
Rescuer
- Certified Nursing
Assistant (May be taken as a 5 hour course from Cowley; must pass state
exam to receive certification.)
TEAS Testing at Winfield Campus
You must pre-register (registration
form) and pre-pay a $35 testing fee. A photo ID is required upon
arrival to test. This is an online test over math, science, reading,
and English skills. Allow approximately 3 hours to complete. It is
very important that you purchase and study the TEAS study guide, available
at the college bookstore and online at atitesting.com.

Financial Aid
Financial assistance may be available through Cowley College while taking
prerequisites at CCCC. Contact Pratt Community College for financial
aid during technical nursing classes.
