The Academic Affairs Council is committed to creating and maintaining
a wholesome and effective learning environment where academic excellence
is emphasized.
The major responsibilities of the Academic Affairs Council include academic
planning and accountability, curriculum development and deployment, academic
policies and priorities, articulation agreements, state, national, and
specialized accreditations, long-ranging planning and strategic leadership.
Members of the Academic Affairs Council are the Vice President of Academic
Affairs, academic department chairs, and the registrar.
Slade Griffiths
Cowley College Vice President of Academic Affairs
As the Chief Academic Officer of the college, Griffiths is responsible
for providing leadership for the academic and instructional programs at
all college locations, online education, library, and the adult education
program.
In 1996 Slade created a paramedic program for the college and in 2005 he established
the Allied Health Department and Center in Winfield. As Director of EMS education
and department chair of the Allied Health Department, Slade was instrumental
in growing the Allied Health Center to one of the most successful departments
of the college.
Slade has received numerous state and national awards, including Academic
Achievement, N.I.S.O.D. Master Teacher, Who's Who Among America's Teachers,
and Outstanding Instructor/Coordinator. Slade continues to teach in the
Cowley College Leadership program.
He has a Master’s degree in Education from Southwestern College, and obtained
his Bachelor’s degree from Friends University in Human Resource Management.

Mark Britton
Registrar
Mark Britton is the Registrar for the college. He has been at Cowley College
since 1996. He began his duties as an adjunct instructor in religion and
economics. In 1999 he was the Coordinator of the Mulvane Center, Assistant
Director of Northern Campuses, and Associate Registrar. Mark became the
Registrar in January of 2007.
Mark received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Ashland University,
Ashland, Ohio and his Master’s of Divinity from Ashland Theological Seminary,
Ashland, Ohio.

Chris Cannon
Department Chair, Allied Health Education
EMS Education Program Director
Chris
graduated from Cowley’s first MICT program in
1997 and returned as a full-time MICT instructor in 2005. In 2008 he assumed
responsibilities for Department Chair. With over 13 years of EMS experience,
he brings an intimate understanding of many different EMS systems to the classroom.
Chris is also the Director of Coop Education and Dislocated Workers programs
at the college.
Chris received the N.I.S.O.D. Master Teacher award in 2007 and the college’s
Young Achiever Award in 2007.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Southwestern
College and a Master's degree in leadership from Southwestern College.

Marlys Cervantes
Department Chair, Humanities
Marlys
has been at the College since 2000 and currently teaches creative writing,
literature and composition classes.
While at Cowley, she has earned
the Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence and NISOD Master Teacher Award,
as well as the Tiger Booster of the Year 2004. Cervantes was Cowley’s
commencement speaker in 2007.
Prior to coming to Cowley, she taught composition
at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she earned
her Master’s degree in English, with an emphasis in contemporary
Native American literature.

Beverly Grunder
Department Chair, Business, Computer
and Information Technology
Beverly
has
been at Cowley College since 1990. She
began her duties as the accounting instructor and became department chair
in 1997. She is also the Director of the Business & Industry Training
program at the college.
Beverly received the National Institute of Staff and Organizational
Development in Austin, TX in 1994. She has received recognition by
Who’s Who in American Teachers and National Academic Advising Association
Certificate of Merit for Advising. She is a member of National Business
Education Association and Kansas Business Education Association. She
is also a Professional Member of Phi Beta Lambda.
Beverly received an Associate
of Arts degree from Pratt Community College, a Bachelor of Business Administration
and Masters of Liberal Arts from Southwestern College, Winfield. She
has taken graduate studies at Emporia State University, Pittsburg State
University, and Wichita, State University.

Bob Moffatt
Department Chair, Career and Technical Education
Since
1996 Bob has served as a welding instructor at the college. He is a graduate
of Cowley College and received additional education at Pioneer Area Vocational
School, Northern Oklahoma College, and the Oregon Institute of Technology.
Moffatt was recognized by the National Institute for Staff & Organizational
Development as a Master Teacher in 2002. He has also received several certifications
in welding.

Shepherd
Department Chair, Social Science
Todd
has been at Cowley College since 1999 as a macroeconomics, microeconomics, math,
and astronomy Instructor, and became Department Chair in 2002.
Todd received the NISOD Master Teacher Award 2002 and the Who's Who Among America's
College Teachers.
Todd has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Economics
from the University of Missouri .

Schoon

Michelle
has been associated with the college since 1990 and became department chair
in 1997. She continues to be an instructor in biology, anatomy and physiology.
Michelle received the Stirnaman Award for Teaching Excellence (2005-2006); Who's
Who's Among American College Instructors(2001,2002,2004,2007); Endowed Chair
for Teaching Excellence (2000-2001); and NISOD master teacher award (1996).
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology eduction from Bethany
College and her Master’s degree in curriculum and Instruction from Wichita
State University.

Shriver
Administrative Assistant for the Instruction Office
Mindi has been
with the college since 1990, and has been Administrative Assistant for
the Instruction Office since July 2002. Her
duties include: assisting the Vice
President of Academic Affairs and the Director of Academic Enrichment;
serving as secretary for the Academic Affairs Council; performing receptionist,
correspondence, clerical and filing duties; assisting faculty and students
in routine matters; maintaining records and distributing teaching materials
to adjunct instructors; maintaining evaluation, personnel, absence, posted
hours and other required records for all instructional staff; maintain
records as required by the Kansas Board of Regents.
